Old Milon

In the story “Old Milon” by Guy De Maupassant, the main character, Old Milon, is very well known and often is described by people as being a very cunning, smart, and sneaky man. He demonstrates how cunning he is throughout his entire story. One way that Old Milon is cunning is how he treated the Prussian soldiers and gave them the best treatment he could. This shows he’s cunning because he knows that if he treats the Prussians well, they will probably help him out later to return the favor. Another example of how Old Milon is cunning is when how he found the man in his yard and snuck up behind him taking small, quiet steps to kill the Prussian. Milon was very clever and came up with some good idea. One idea was when he took the clothing items of a Prussian he killed, put them on, got on a horse and rode towards other Prussians. He waited until he was very close to the other Prussians and started yelling “Hilfe! Hilfe!” When the Prussians came over on their horses to see if he was okay, he quickly shot one of them and killed the other with his sword. He took both Prussian soldiers by surprise, neither of them new it was coming. Overall, there were many examples were Milon displayed his cunning personality.
